MULLED WINE RECIPE
Is there anything that smells more like Christmas than a pan of mulled wine warming on the stove?
Mulled wine is incredibly easy to make. I highly recommend making your own from scratch, it'll be a lot less sugary and a whole load more tasty than the ready made stuff. This mulled wine recipe takes no longer than 15 minutes to make and heat, perfect for unexpected guests.
To make mulled wine, you'll need:
- 1 bottle of red wine - Shiraz or Merlot both work well but it doesn't matter too much
- 1/2 a pint of freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 orange - cut into slices
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 6 cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon of freshly grated nutmeg
- 1 star anise
Put everything into a pan and heat to no hotter than 75C. Anything above that and the alcohol in the wine starts to burn off, and you wouldn't want that!
There really is nothing more to it than that. It's an excellent recipe for unexpected guests who pop round to drop off Christmas cards and presents
