On the Make Episode 49 | Planning for life & work with kindness & self-empathy with Hannah Bullivant
I’m super excited to share this week’s episode, a chat with the wonderful Hannah Bullivant. Not only is she an incredible stylist, writer and mum of two but she also has a big place in her heart for planning, which started with The Life book. Hannah’s Life Book, which she now shares as a course and series of printables on her website, started life as a process her and her husband went through each year to figure out where they wanted their lives to go and how they were going to get there. Something Hannah’s discovered over the 10+ years she’s now been ‘life booking’ is how kindness and self-empathy can play a huge role in helping us make realistic plans and reach our goals (or to turn around that traditional concept of ‘failure’ if we don’t).
The other thing Hannah is passionate about when it comes to planning is planning for imperfect people, AKA anyone who feels like that don’t have their shit together, is a mum raising children, is someone struggling with their mental or physical health, the list goes on. Because in fact, we’re all imperfect in our own way and there’s lots we can learn from Hannah’s approach to planning for work and life, lots of which she shares in this episode.
IN THIS EPISODE WE COVER
How Hannah’s life book came about and how it’s evolved from a process she used to go through with her husband to something she now shares as a course to help others with their planning too.
Getting your partner on board with creating a plan and how to frame it in a way that doesn’t sound unappealing for those who don’t like the idea of ‘being tied’ down by a plan.
The benefits and results Hannah and her family have seen as a result of planning, not just for work but their lives.
Planning for imperfect people - for people who have multiple commitments to juggle, mental health illnesses to manage, children to look after, health conditions to work around.
What productivity means to Hannah and myself, around doing less and just focussing on what matters most.
Setting goals from a place of kindness and the benefits of doing so.
How self-empathy and kindness is more powerful than punishing ourselves to meet our goals.
